Dear S'cubies,

I have received numerous emails and messages since our great move here from ScoopMe! with very generous folks offering monies to help pay for the site. Formerly, I have always thanked them, turned them down and made some sort of comment about how I will keep them in mind should we ever need funds later on.

The Steerage Council donated the necessary funds to originally open the doors on this place. We are functioning well within the perimeters allowed by our site host. As we grow bigger and bigger, eventually we may need to increase funding, but for now we are doing just fine. Asking for money is a hard thing to do without sounding "cheesy" or "dishonest" and I am ever so glad I don't have to do that for us. Should we ever grow to the point of needing additional funding we shall examine that issue again, but for now the site is free to all the S'cubie membership, paid for in full by the Steerage Council. Personally, I LIKE being just about the only website that doesn't beg for funding.

However, there is still a problem: people do have a need to donate and give. It rightly makes them feel good. So, we here at the Steerage Council came up with a plan: Let us be known as the website that DONATES funding. Not to other websites, but to the truly needy. I hate always telling our generous membership "No." I would much rather say, "You know what... we don't need it, but if you truly have extra to give, why not think about these needful places."

The S3 is a "for fun" place. It's a way to relax, a way to enjoy; it's a hobby and it's free. I would rather people spend money on things that aren't so fun but are definitely important. The Soulful Spike Society will never find a cure for cancer, will probably never really do much of anything except provide some intelligent people an outlet for their imaginations. But, our imaginations can maybe find a way via charities to fund someone else's struggle to do something great in the world and we could all take some pride in that. We would get the reputation of being a great society. I think that is a key word for us. We are more than a fan club, more than a chat site… we are a group of people that have chosen to share aspects of our lives with one another for the betterment of all: We are a society.

So…here's the deal: Below is a list of charities. Some are choices of the Steerage Council (recommendation is noted) and there is also a list of charities and links to charity pages of the Cast and Crew of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel (recommendation also noted). If you desire, please pick one or two and donate whatever you want to them. Make it out in your name, in The Soulful Spike Society's name, or both. The point is that someone who needs money is getting it, not who gets the credit.

This list will remain static, only updated to reflect changes in links and so forth and will not be accepting any other additional charities. I know that there is probably a different worthy charity in the heart of each and every one of you. If you would rather donate funding to YOUR favorite charity in your name or the S3 please obviously feel free to do so. The key thing is helping those who need it.

Remember, we are not soliciting funding for any of these charities. We are simply putting the information in a place for you to easily access it. We in no way feel that anyone has to donate anything. No hard sell here. Whatever you do is between you and the charity itself. Do it just 'cause it's the right thing to do.

Fangs for listening,

Vlad and the Steerage Council

We'll let you know when we find something he gives a bloody dime to.

Okay to be fair, he goes to many a charitable event and signed items of his get donated all the time. However, after an exhausting search, we could find no charity he specifically aligns himself with. If you know of one, drop me a line at submissions@soulfulspike.com.
